My Story

I'm originally from Newfoundland and moved here in 2006 with a one year plan. Fast forward a few years and I now call Fort McMurray home with my husband Lance, our two boys and our little dog.

We recently opened The Dancery as a place for me to instruct my dance fitness classes and a place to host and collaborate on a variety of new and exciting events! I've been involved in many events over the years, including coordinating the Fort McMurray Tourism Gold Star Gala, Managing the Fort McMurray and Lethbridge Women's Show Fashion Shows, coordinating Christmas parties for up to 500 attendees and travelling all over Canada working as a Talent Scout & Runway Coach.

My oldest son, Chase will be working with me at the studio! Some of you may know him as your favourite local superhero and owner of SuperPartiesYMM. He's in Grade 12 and has had his business (and Business License with the RMWB) for the past 2 1/2 years. He will be working with me on events and will also be hosting some of his own!

Little Dominic is 6 and he's also asking for a job, so you'll likely see him around helping at some family events too :)

We have recently been approved as a licensed facility with AGLC! Look forward to paint nights, networking events, Galas, craft events, markets...we have so many fun things planned. Dance Fitness?

In 2009, I was asked if I would like to bring this new thing called Zumba to town. Saying yes was one of the scariest but best decisions that I have ever made! The first class that I instructed was actually the very first time that I ever stepped foot into a fitness class. I did my training the following week lol!

I'm so glad there were no other Zumba classes in town to compare it to, because I definitely did the same steps over and over for an hour. I still remember how I felt after that class...I wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out LOL. I did get much better though and completely fell in love with instructing. I'm so glad that I didn't quit because I can't even imagine a life without classes!

A few years later, I completed a certification for Zumba Step and also for Strong by Zumba. In 2017, I went to Vegas do my certification for Vixen Workout and became the 2nd Canadian instructor. In 2019, I started as a trainer with 9Round Fitness and in 2021 when all of the studios were closed, I finally did the work to accomplish a major goal of mine.

I completed my Fitness Instructor Specialist certification with CanFitPro so that I can create my own fitness classes! I have loved every minute of my instructor journey up to this moment, but I am SO excited for this chapter! And I am so thankful for all of you that helped make it happen!
